Our story

Ten years of listening to Hong Kong's children — and to the people who care for them.

Established 2014 First play therapy service in HK primary schools North Point · Prince Edward

Why we exist

Hong Kong is a fast-paced, competitive city — and concern for its people's mental health keeps growing. HKPCCA was founded in 2014 to answer that: providing play therapy and counselling to the local community, and professional training that popularises these services — and drives their professionalisation — across Hong Kong.

That same year, we became the first organisation to bring play therapy into Hong Kong's primary schools. Over the past decade we have supported thousands of individuals of all ages, and since 2016 we have brought play therapy to more than 30 local schools and social welfare organisations. Today the work continues on three fronts: play therapy for children, psychological counselling for adolescents and adults, and professional training for the people who deliver both.

Since 2014

The city's most professional training

We are committed to delivering the most professional training in the city — actively nurturing excellent play therapists and counsellors. Our students follow a systematic pathway: theoretical study, skills practice, simulated cases and real clinical internships, with personalised guidance from senior instructors and supervisors at every step.

Each trainee accumulates practical experience in a supportive environment, growing the professional judgment and empathy to deliver high-quality, sincere service to the clients they will one day meet.

Every individual deserves to be understood, accepted and respected. We accompany each client through their life journey with the most genuine empathy — so that they feel deeply understood and respected.

How we work

three commitments, one approach
01For children, we look beneath the behaviour.
Children carrying feelings they can't yet name often show us instead — the behaviour that exhausts a household is communication. Our play therapists work to understand the need beneath it, and parents join regular consultations, so home moves forward with the playroom.
02For teenagers and adults, we walk through the hard seasons.
Pressure, transition and low periods are hard to avoid in this city. Our counsellors work through them with clients in a supportive therapeutic environment — and for those simply lost in the pace of it, counselling becomes a place to think clearly.
03Beneath it all, one belief.
Each person is capable of solving their own problems and taking charge of their own life. Our job is to provide the conditions where that capability can surface. Most parents we work with report a significant reduction in the problems that brought them to us.

Milestones that mattered.

One line runs through all of it. Most of our teaching team trained at the source of child-centered play therapy, brought that training to Hong Kong, and now certify the local professionals who carry it into schools and playrooms across the city. The circle closes with a Hong Kong child.
